In Thee I Trust

Psalm 25
  1. To Thee, O LORD, I lift up my soul.
  2. O my God, in Thee I trust, do not let me be ashamed; do not let my enemies exult over me.
  3. Indeed, none of those who wait for Thee will be ashamed; those who deal treacherously without cause will be ashamed.
  4. Make me know Thy ways, O LORD; teach me Thy paths.
  5. Lead me in Thy truth and teach me, for Thou art the God of my salvation; for Thee I wait all the day.
  6. Remember, O LORD, Thy compassion and Thy lovingkindnesss, for they have been from of old.
  7. Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to Thy lovingkindness remember Thou me, for Thy goodness' sake, O LORD.
  8. Good and upright is the LORD; therefore He instructs sinners in the way.
  9. He leads the humble in justice, and He teaches the humble His way.
  10. All the paths of the LORD are lovingkindness and truth to those who keep His covenant and His testimonies.
  11. For Thy name's sake, O LORD, pardon my iniquity, for it is great.
  12. Who is the man who fears the LORD? He will instruct him in the way he should choose.
  13. His soul will abide in prosperity, and his descendants will inherit the land.
  14. The secret of the LORD is for those who fear Him, and He will make them know His covenant.
  15. My eyes are continually toward the LORD, for He will pluck my feet out of the net.
  16. Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted.
  17. The troubles of my heart are enlarged; bring me out of my distresses.
  18. Look upon my affliction and my trouble, and forgive all my sins.
  19. Look upon my enemies, for they are many; and they hate me with violent hatred.
  20. Guard my soul and deliver me; do not let me be ashamed, for I take refuge in Thee.
  21. Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait for Thee.
  22. Redeem Israel, O God, out of all his troubles.

See God

Borrowing from The Upper Room Devotional

By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and all their host by the breath of his mouth. -Psalm 33:6

When I was a teenager, someone gave me a poster depicting a beautiful lake surrounded by mountains and tall pine trees. The image suggested peacefulness; and the caption below the picture read, "Have you not seen him [God] in the things he has made?"

We live in a secular society that too often does not acknowledge God's role in creating heaven and earth or God's desire for relationship with each of us. The Bible presents a different view, that God created the world and in love sent Jesus Christ to be our savior. I believe that each of us was created for a purpose and that God wants us to draw near each day in prayer and meditation. When we have a personal relationship with God, we discover that we are connected not only to God but to one another in love.

Have you seen God in the world around you? I believe the words of Psalm 19:1: "The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork."

-Kathi Case (New Mexico, U.S.A.)

Prayer:
Creator God, we praise you for the work of your hands and for the mighty gift of your son Jesus Christ. Give us the wisdom and resolve to read your word each day. Amen.

Imagin how you might see God at GBC and ask him to make that happen.

Be Bold

Luke 8:46-48 - But Jesus said, "Someone did touch Me, for I was aware that power had gone out of Me." And when the woman saw that she had not escaped notice, she came trembling and fell down before Him, and declared in the presence of all the people the reason why she had touched Him, and how she had been immediately healed. And He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace."

I am always amazed at how this woman simply took what she wanted from Jesus. No timid request here. Jesus did not scold her, rather He used to opportunity to point out that He empowers us, if we rely on Him.

When you pray about GBC, pray as if you are informing God of what you are taking.

Prayer to Jesus

Found this liturgical prayer in the Greek Orthodox Prayer Book and loved it.
My most merciful and all-merciful God, Lord Jesus Christ, through Thy great love Thou didst come down and take flesh to save all. And again, O Saviour, save me by Thy grace, I pray Thee, for if Thou shouldst save me for my works, this would not be grace or a gift, but rather a duty. Indeed, in Thy infinite compassion and unspeakable mercy, Thou O my Christ hast said: Whoever believes in Me shall live and never see death. If faith in Thee saves the desperate, save me, for Thou art my God and Creator. Impute my faith instead of deeds, O my God, for Thou wilt find no deeds which could justify me, but may my faith suffice for all my deeds. May it answer for and acquit me, and may it make me a partaker of Thy eternal glory. And may satan not seize me, O Word, and boast that he has torn me from Thy hand and fold. O Christ, my Saviour, whether I will or not, save me. Make haste, quick, quick, for I perish. Thou art my God from my mother's womb. Grant me, O Lord, to love Thee now as once I loved sin, and also to work for Thee without idleness, as I worked before for deceptive satan. But supremely shall I work for Thee, my Lord and God, Jesus Christ, all the days of my life, now and ever, and to the ages of ages. Amen.

Positive Confession

Isa 26:13 - O LORD our God, other masters besides Thee have ruled us; but through Thee alone we confess Thy name.

So often we think of confession as "listing sins," but there is a positive aspect as well. It is about placing God on His throne. We confess our unworthiness, becasue HE IS WORTHY.

As you pray from GBC today, begin with confession -- begin by placing God in the proper place, as the head of all.

Then pray for all those that are coming to GBC alone. Pray that they can meet the difficulties of traveling and lodging alone and that they can meet poeple and make friends in an appropriate and holy manner.

Source Of All Gifts

Have you thought about the gifts and talents that are necessary to pull GBC together? It takes a lot of abilities and skills. One of the liturgical prayer sites I haunt had this prayer after a lesson on Dunstan of Canterbury
O God of truth and beauty, who richly endowed your bishop Dunstan with skill in music and the working of metals, and with gifts of administration and reforming zeal: Teach us, we pray, to see in you the source of all our talents, and move us to offer them for the adornment of worship and the advancement of true religion; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
I think that is a very appropriate prayer for GBC today, pray it with me, won't you?

How Do You Thank God?

Psalm 138:1-3
  1. I will give Thee thanks with all my heart; I will sing praises to Thee before the gods.
  2. I will bow down toward Thy holy temple, and give thanks to Thy name for Thy lovingkindness and Thy truth; for Thou hast magnified Thy word according to all Thy name.
  3. On the day I called Thou didst answer me; Thou didst make me bold with strength in my soul.

When you thank God, do you do so as if you were thanking a sales clerk who just treated your courteously, or do you bow before him with a full understanding of the blessing granted. It is easy to take God for granted, but dangerous to do so.

Though it has yet to happen, GBC is already a blessing from God. I have met many of his wonderful disciples as a result. Thank God today for the blessing that He has bestowed in GBC.
