Look To The Lord

Psalm 121

1 I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; from whence shall my help come?
2 My help {comes} from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.
3 He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber.
4 Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD is your keeper; the LORD is your shade on your right hand.
6 The sun will not smite you by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul.
8 The LORD will guard your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forever.

When things are tough, when times are troubled, where do you turn for help? Do you turn first and only to the Lord? Where else could or should you turn? Only God has enough power and enough desire to helpyou with literally anything.

When

Eccl 7:8 - The end of a matter is better than its beginning; patience of spirit is better than haughtiness of spirit.

God always answers prayer - always. It is never a question of if, but when. Sometimes the right thing to do after you have asked God for something is not to ask for it again, but to ask Him to grant you the patience to wait for Him. God knows what's best for us, even if we do not. We need to trust in His wisdom.

Expectation

Matt 9:20-22

20 And behold, a woman who had been suffering from a hemorrhage for twelve years, came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His cloak; 21 for she was saying to herself, "If I only touch His garment, I shall get well." 22 But Jesus turning and seeing her said, "Daughter, take courage; your faith has made you well." And at once the woman was made well.

When you pray, do you have that level of expectation? Are you so convinced of God's desire to grant you your wish, that you know all you need to do is get near Him? Trying praying that way for yourself and GBC today.

Thanking Through Prayer

Oswald Chambers asks
What line of thinking do my thoughts take? Do I turn to what God says or to my own fears? Am I simply repeating what God says, or am I learning to truly hear Him and then to respond after I have heard what He says? "For He Himself has said, ’I will never leave you nor forsake you.’ So we may boldly say: ’The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?’ " ( Hebrews 13:5-6 ).
What great guidance for our prayers for GBC and life in general today.

Utter Desparation

Psalm 38:17-22

17 For I am ready to fall, and my sorrow is continually before me.
18 For I confess my iniquity; I am full of anxiety because of my sin.
19 But my enemies are vigorous and strong; and many are those who hate me wrongfully.
20 And those who repay evil for good, they oppose me, because I follow what is good.
21 Do not forsake me, O LORD; O my God, do not be far from me!
22 Make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation!

This is a man at the end of his rope. Do you approach God that way? Do you realize we are all there? Have you ever been lead in prayer by someone that invited you to "go before the throne of grace?" How do you approach a throne?

Prostrate! Do not come before the Lord presumptively, before you make your petition, declare your unworthiness. Beg God, for He owes you nothing.

Who Needs Your Prayers?

Paul wrote, "I always thank my God as I remember you in my prayers."

-Philemon 4 (NIV)

Please thank God today for the people that are putting togehter GBC. They are working hard and deserve our thanks and to be lifted up. The Upper Room devotional book included this small prayer with this verse
Dear God, you know the person who needs a special touch from you. Come alongside them today and let them know others are praying for them. Amen.
Let's pray that together today.

Sing With Joy

Psalm 5

1 Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my groaning.
2 Heed the sound of my cry for help, my King and my God, for to Thee do I pray.
3 In the morning, O LORD, Thou wilt hear my voice; in the morning I will order my prayer to Thee and eagerly watch.
4 For Thou art not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness; no evil dwells with Thee.
5 The boastful shall not stand before Thine eyes; Thou dost hate all who do iniquity.
6 Thou dost destroy those who speak falsehood; the LORD abhors the man of bloodshed and deceit.
7 But as for me, by Thine abundant lovingkindness I will enter Thy house, at Thy holy temple I will bow in reverence for Thee.
8 O LORD, lead me in Thy righteousness because of my foes; make Thy way straight before me.
9 There is nothing reliable in what they say; their inward part is destruction itself their throat is an open grave; they flatter with their tongue.
10 Hold them guilty, O God; by their own devices let them fall! In the multitude of their transgressions thrust them out, for they are rebellious against Thee.
11 But let all who take refuge in Thee be glad, let them ever sing for joy; and mayest Thou shelter them, that those who love Thy name may exult in Thee.
12 For it is Thou who dost bless the righteous man, O LORD, Thou dost surround him with favor as with a shield.

Sometimes the Psalms say it all. Remmber GBC as you pray today.
